Hi!!! I am Christina, but you can also call me Chrissy. I am a lifestyle photographer for all definitions of families and service the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia area. I am located in Howard County, Maryland.
My first year of business I felt like I wasn’t a real business owner even though I had a business account, was registered with the state, and all the super important stuff that makes you legit (perks to being a CPA wife). I thought that since I wasn’t “full time” that I wasn’t a real business owner. I have learned that I was no less a business owner than anyone else. There are so many successful and passionate business owners that have a family and wear multiple hats. I can be passionate about teaching elementary school teacher and documenting families.
How did this journey begin? It begun with a hobby. But, here is the REAL story. My daughter was two and my husband played soccer three times a week and I didn’t have time aside for me. Michelle Obama tells a story similar to mine.
“My resentment for him was that Barack was prioritizing himself, in a way. We had babies; he was at the gym. I was like, ‘How do you find time to work out?’ I was like, ‘So let me stop being mad at him for going to the gym and let me get to the gym,’ you know?“- M.O
Problem was I didn’t go to the gym. That wasn’t my jam. I wanted to be creative. I got my first camera in 2013 and in 2017 I was determined to have a hobby so that I could get out of the house. There, I said it. I wanted to take better photos of my daughter. Whenever I picked up my camera and took the images, it rarely turned out in the way that I had planned. So I invested in education and got out of the house. One problem with photography as a hobby is that it is expensive and addictive. Next I needed a $125 fifty nifty lens. My husband gave an ultimatum, if I wanted the lens and a NEW camera, I needed to start a business. “WHAT!?!?!?! No!!!!” So what did I do? Launch a business in July 2017. I just dived in and so thankful for the community and support.
I went from the image to the left (my first paid session in 2017) to the image on the right.
I have documented well over a hundred families since 2017. Each family is unique and I am always excited to produce images that reflect their connection and love, even if it is chaotic at times.
How do I do it all? That is for another blog post. Be sure to join my client community, Christina’s Click for all the latest news.
