Based in Howard County, Maryland, Christina Tundo Photography serves all the definitions of family within the DMV area, preserving the authentic moments, both big and small, that you want to hold onto forever.
You may have noticed that many newborn sessions feature little ones with a white onesie. It’s not a coincidence that a lot of photographers recommend these simple outfits for their clients’ newborn sessions. I, along with many other newborn photographers, want to create a simplified experience for our families that really allows your final images to focus on your little one and how tiny they are. Today, I want to share the reasons that the simple white onesie is one of my favorite outfit ideas for lifestyle newborn photos!
Honestly, this idea goes for anyone who’s being photographed, but the more simple your outfits, the more we can focus on your connections and emotions in the images. Sometimes, we have a tendency to overdo it – a loud location, a busy print on everyone in the family, or too many props. Simple setups with simple relaxed outfits means that we’re truly seeing what’s happening during your portraits.
When newborns and babies wear two piece sets, often they bunch and/or do not fit. By putting them in a simple onesie, there’s not a bunch of pieces to get baby into – and to have not fit. Additionally, these simple onesies also mean that your little one can quicky get into a swaddled look for some variety in your portraits without having to disturb them too much. I’m all about anything that keeps baby relaxed and keeps your session moving!
What we wear can cause reflections back on our skin in final images. Therefore, it’s important to consider what color you and your babies are wearing in your portraits. By keeping a neutral color palette on you and your baby, we can reduce the colors reflected back on you all when you’re snuggling up close! That means editing is easier and you’ll like your final images way more, trust me.
When we have a simple and straightforward outfit for your little one, it’s easy to swap them into a clean version. Sometimes the complicated outfits mean that once your baby spits up, that outfit is done. A simple onesie is quick to replace if baby spits up! That means your session is even more stress-free! Have I convinced you yet that white onesies are the perfect outfit ideas for lifestyle newborn photos?!
Look, I get it. A simple white onesie may not be everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re not feeling it, consider a few other options. One of my favorite options is to check out Lou Lou & Company bodysuits. They have beautiful knit cream or knit white options that will still give you all of the perks of a white onesie! Zara also has adorable options in knit, too.
At the end of the day, your portraits are your own and these are merely suggestions. I absolutely love the clean and classic look for newborn portraits. The final images are much more emotional and show the connection of your family even more clearly. If you’re wondering what else to wear, consider some of the options in my what to wear post! Don’t forget – you can always ask me to help figure out what you might want to wear, too!
