I love seeing families grow and change – it might be the most special part of my job! When Melanie of Melanie Jean Photography contacted me to document her family again to welcome their new daughter home, I was so honored. It feels like it was just yesterday, in the full-fledged pandemic, when I was there to document their oldest daughter coming home! We planned a relaxed newborn lifestyle photo session in their Annapolis, MD home and it was such a perfect day!

I love how laid-back Melanie’s family is. Melanie and her husband are so at ease with their two girls, and it’s sweet to watch them all together. Baby C’s big sister wasn’t too sure about her arrival and has been a little reluctant as she’s been at home. That’s pretty normal with toddlers. It’s always interesting to see how toddlers are with their new siblings! Some are so excited, and others are ready to ignore them forever. But, as our session wore on, this big sister became more involved. She even went and got a paci for Baby C! I can already tell their relationship is going to become something special – having a sister is a gift! 

One of the things that Melanie wanted to capture during these photos was big sister’s favorite activity: couch running. It was hilarious and a lot of fun to watch her play around! I’m glad they’ll have these photos to document this moment in their lives. We split their session between their living room and Baby C’s nursery. I LOVE seeing how it’s been transformed since I was last there. They chose a color scheme based on the whimsical jellyfish artwork, creating the perfect coastal chic vibe for an Annapolis home. 

If you’ve been around the blog awhile, you may have seen me refer to newborn sessions as “new life” sessions. I gravitate towards calling these sessions “new life” because everyone’s life truly changes when someone new joins the family. From siblings adjusting to figuring out new patterns as parents, everything starts new. It’s such a beautiful experience!
