Based in Howard County, Maryland, Christina Tundo Photography serves all the definitions of family within the DMV area, preserving the authentic moments, both big and small, that you want to hold onto forever.
Every once in awhile, I hear statements from parents booking a session for their family that make me smile. There’s a few myths about family photography that are circulating – and often prevent families from wanting to book sessions. I get it! Photo sessions can be stressful, but I wanted to take a moment to bust some of these family photography myths so that you can feel 100% confident planning your next family portrait session here in the DMV!
While toddlers definitely have more energy than some other family members, I’ve never found them difficult to photograph! This age is actually my favorite. Everything they do is 100% authentic, and the portraits of them really reflect that. Their energy keeps everyone on their toes and excited… and results in some beautiful images.
I won’t lie, this one makes me cringe when I hear it! It’s true – to a degree. When kids are expected to sit still and smile, of course they’re only going to last 10 minutes at a time. But… those images then lack a lot of personality and family interaction. That’s why I encourage more lifestyle sessions. We play games, you get to cuddle up and run around. With this in mind, we have more time for your kids to warm up to me and to get into their photos!
Sure, those locations have more spaces for running. But guess what? I choose 1-3 locations during a full portrait session based on lighting and your overall goal. We’ll always find ways to include movement, games, and laughs with your family… no matter where we wind up!
This myth also goes along with “My partner hates getting their picture taken” and “My kid just freezes during photos.” Let me tell you a secret: even as a photographer, I still feel odd being photographed. Where do I put my hands? Am I smiling wide enough? Is my shirt laying flat? That’s why I’m here to help you! We’ll make sure you feel relaxed and natural during the entire session. I’ll provide prompts, make you laugh (however I can!) and even have options for outfits so you feel confident your entire session.
There you have it! 4 of the most common family photography myths I hear. Leave a comment below with other hesitations you have about family portraits!

Christina is hands down the best photographer our family had ever had! She forms wonderful relationships with not only the parents but also the children. The images she is able to capture with two young children always amaze me!
