When clients ask me what to wear for their family or maternity portraits, one of my first suggestions is always a flowy dress for mom. Dresses with flowy skirts and fabrics photograph really well – and everyone looks amazing in them! These dresses are comfortable and help almost all women feel great. Today, I wanted to share a few of my favorite places to find flowy dresses for your next portrait session!
This is my favorite company! The dress quality is perfect. I love that the company has models that are a variety of sizes to get an idea on what it can look like. There is a category for bump and nursing friendly dresses. I have many pieces from this company in my client closet, too, which you’re always welcome to use for your session!
I really like Morning Lavender’s variety. They offer stunning dresses that are timeless and feminine. There’s something for everyone!
Lulus is one of my favorite places to shop each season! They have beautiful flowy dresses in the perfect color for the season, allowing you to find something that will reflect your personality and your family’s personalities easily.
Red Dress offers a great affordable boutique option for something unique and simply stunning! They also have some really fun accessories which will help your outfit pop in your portraits.
Anthropologie provides a wide variety of colors and looks with their dresses. I love how most of their flowy dresses are simple – not overstated. They photograph beautifully and are a fun way to incorporate a bit more color in your session.
If you want something that feels more boho chic, Vici is the shop for you. Their collections are always beautiful and provide a really fun option for that more bohemian feel! Boho chic is onone of my favorite
Another great option is Rent the Runway. Here, you can rent designer pieces for your photos or other events during the year. I love that you can return them (less waste!) and this allows you to truly pick something fun and different for your portraits that you might not have bought yourself.
As you can see, there’s lots of GREAT options for flowy dresses! Remember, I also have my client closet (which you can read more about HERE!) if you want to simply borrow what I have on hand. I always choose flowing dresses to stock my closet, so there’s lots of options. At the end of the day, wear what’s comfortable to you and that you feel great in. Those are the most important parts about choosing an outfit for your portraits.
