One of the common questions I get from families who are inquiring about a family portrait session is “what if I don’t want my images shared on social media?”. So, I thought I’d share some of my thoughts and the options you and your family have when it comes to your privacy related to your photos.

Why does privacy matter?

My number one goal is to have clients be comfortable while working with me. Not just while we’re having fun at your session, but also afterwards. I never want a family wondering what will happen with their photos or how I’ll be sharing them. With living near DC and government jobs, there are times when families would like me to not share the images. There are families that are concerned with the load of sharing their child on social media. When you book a session, I will ask about your comfort level so that I can adjust the contract accordingly. The bottom line is that I will use your images ONLY with your permission and in the way we’ve agreed to, that’s a promise. 

So… what are my options?

When we start setting up your contract, I’ll ask about your family’s privacy levels. There’s typically four options I provide: 

1. Share away

2. Share images of just the adults

3. Share faceless images. (I adore faceless images because they show a story and emotion. These are frequently on my portfolio and social media.)

4. Do not share images

‌Your family’s safety and comfort are my top priority. While I love being able to share images to show off your beautiful session, provide sneak peeks, or otherwise market my business – your safety and comfort will always take priority. I offer these options because I want you to feel confident with how your family is shared online and I will never fault you for wanting to keep them to yourself. While inquiring or booking your session, don’t ever hesitate to share your concerns or preferences. I’m here to make your family portraits stress-free – seriously – from start to finish!
