Based in Howard County, Maryland, Christina Tundo Photography serves all the definitions of family within the DMV area, preserving the authentic moments, both big and small, that you want to hold onto forever.
Over the years my style has evolved like any artist. I have noticed a pattern of what my eye gravitates towards and when certain elements bring my photography style to life. I’m now known for my light and airy photos that capture families in action together. While I’m responsible for bringing a lot of that style to life, there’s things that you can do to help bring my signature bright and light style to your portraits!
I have discovered that I do not like doing photos at sunset time. I want skin tones to look clean and the greens in my editing style look muddy then. I typically begin sessions 2-3 hours before sunset or 1-3 hours after sunrise depending on the typography of the land. We’ll decide together when to schedule your session, so we’re planning a time that works well for your family. But, it’s good to keep those windows in mind.
The background of your portraits definitely sets the tone. It’s certainly more important during in-home sessions. I will look for simple, light surfaces – instead of darker colors. WIth that in mind, I do not prequalify homes. If your home is on the darker side because that’s what your family prefers, then that’s okay!! I’m photographing these sessions for YOU – not to build my portfolio. However, I do want to do my best to deliver a gallery that is consistent with my other work – so if it feels like your images seem darker, that could be it.
Our eyes naturally look at subjects and backgrounds with the most contrast. If someone is wearing darker items, those pieces of clothing stick out, especially with my editing style. I want the viewer’s eye to be on the connections between family members – not necessarily what they’re wearing. I recommend clients to wear neutral and softer colors to achieve this. I provide pieces to borrow through my Client Closet that all help create that light and airy vibe in my portraits.
Selecting the right time, location, and outfit for your portraits are key to bringing that light and airy look to your final images. This is the style I’m known for and truly love. I think it allows me to focus on your family’s interactions in the best way possible. Still not sure how to get the look you love in your photos? Let’s talk! I’m here to help you plan your dream session!
