Based in Howard County, Maryland, Christina Tundo Photography serves all the definitions of family within the DMV area, preserving the authentic moments, both big and small, that you want to hold onto forever.
It’s no secret around here that I LOVE capturing in-home family photos. There’s something magical and definitely way less stressful about photographing a family in the place they love most. But I have to confess something, while I love in-home sessions for you – my clients- I also selfishly love them for myself too. But, I truly believe once you know the selfish reasons I love in-home family photos, you’re going to love them too!
Because we’re working mostly indoors for most in-home family photos, we don’t really have to worry about working around the weather. That means WAY less stress for me – and you. Trust me, there is nothing I hate more than monitoring weather just to find out we have to cancel lour session! Unless there are dark rain clouds, we are a go for in-home family photos. Plus, I hate being cold and hate sweating behind the lens, so I get to capture your session in normal temperatures. (Selfish, I told you!). Not to mention: you don’t have to stress about weather elements either such as extreme heat or cold. Sweat and frizzy hair are gone which in turn means less editing for me, too!
I feel that with in-home family photo sessions, I get to be more creative than I might be otherwise. Each home is unique, each family is unique, and each family dynamic is unique. I walk into homes having an understanding of each family, but little understanding of the light or layout of a home. So, once I arrive, I get to tie elements together. It pushes me to think beyond what I might usually do. I think it’s a lot of fun, honestly!
Photo sessions at home require storytelling. In every session that I photograph, I want to tell a story and create authentic, genuine images for your family to love for years to come. The truth is that the most honest imagery I can create is at home for your family. Real moments happen – even the chaotic ones – and I get to document them. There’s nothing more special to me.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: photographers, even ones that have been doing it for years, get a bit anxious and nervous before photography sessions. I want to be sure I capture what you hope and want out of our session. The nerves are real and they definitely happen. But, it is pretty rare that I go into a client’s home and feel anxious/nervous. I know I’m going to be welcomed and the atmosphere is always way more relaxed.
At-home sessions just feel easier for me. Maybe it’s because there are no other people around with extra noise and distractions. Or, maybe it’s the fact that a client’s child can just take a moment to eat a snack or that it is a time of day where kids aren’t cranky. Kids and parents alike are definitely more relaxed at home – plus with little ones, everything you need is right on hand (extra diapers, change of clothes, bottles). As a parent myself and your photographer, I’m always about doing what helps you out the most so you can enjoy our time together.
In-home sessions are one of my all-time favorite ways to photograph a family. As you can see, my reasons might be selfish – but they come from a place of caring and wanting our experience together to be joyful and stress-free.
