I just adored working with this extended family for their lifestyle session. Extended family sessions are typically chaotic – in the best way – because you’ve got so many people together to photograph. But this family’s lifestyle photos were so calm and peaceful. It was important to Kim and her family to capture the special moments that happen naturally while they do something they love: cooking together and sharing a meal. That was the basis for our lifestyle family photos in Northern VA and I just love how it all turned out!

I’m going to be totally honest, this session definitely felt like a dream to me. I got to watch them all cook food and ask about it like a judge on Top Chef. Seriously: a dream. I knew that’s what we were going to be doing because Kim filled out her questionnaire (which gave me goosebumps, by the way!) but watching them all together was so special. The grandparents live out in California so they aren’t together super often, but they’ve always connected over food. That’s what lifestyle sessions are all about: documenting the most important things to you.

Not only did the family want to document the creation of their special meals, but it was important to capture their children with their grandparents. The kids were SO excited and I loved learning more about their little personalities. It was clear everyone was having a great time being all together. These special memories will last a lifetime and I hope that they will be a prized memory for everyone who was present during this Fairfax lifestyle family photo session.
