Based in Howard County, Maryland, Christina Tundo Photography serves all the definitions of family within the DMV area, preserving the authentic moments, both big and small, that you want to hold onto forever.
When it’s time to book your newborn session, you’re going to find there’s two main styles of photographers: lifestyle v. posed newborn photographers. Each type of session and photographer has their own pros and cons. You’ll want to look through the differences and decide what might be best for your family. There’s absolutely NO right or wrong answer here!! When it comes down to it, photographers want our clients to love their final images so it’s really important to pick a style that works for your family. I’m a lifestyle newborn photographer but know that if you prefer posed, we can definitely find you a photographer! Let’s break down a little more about newborn lifestyle sessions below!
Lifestyle sessions tend to take place at home or somewhere meaningful for you. The main focus of these sessions is to document the interactions that occur on a daily basis with your new baby. These will involve the entire household – fur babies, parents, and grandparents are totally welcome!! You will handle your baby most of the time, and honestly your little one will be held for 95% of the session. Generally, these sessions are pretty relaxed. Your baby will lead the way and we’ll capture more “natural” images, and less posed. Finally, lifestyle sessions can be a great option for new parents as they’re at home (where everything you need is!) and you don’t have to trapse your baby to a studio.
While lifestyle newborn sessions are a great option, there’s a few things to remember. If there’s a photo you’re trying to emulate from another child’s newborn session, that will likely be more difficult at home (unless it was a lifestyle to begin with!). Since sessions take place at home, we’ll need to find good light – or create it – if necessary. Don’t stress about that too much, as part of my job is finding that light.
In comparison, posed newborn sessions generally take place in studios and away from your home. The photographer will handle your baby and pose you all together. Sometimes studios have limits on who is included (or not), so just watch for that! In many ways, posed newborn sessions are more traditional and what families have been doing for years. Again, there is no right or wrong answer here!
When you’re trying to decide which type of newborn session to book, consider whether a lifestyle session or posed session draws you in more. What kind of imagery are you more interested in displaying and documenting? Take the time to look through a potential photographer’s portfolio and determine what the best fit will be for your family and your new baby!!
