Christina Tundo Photography is SIX!!! It has been an amazing journey and every day I am SO thankful for the families that trust me with their memories year after year as their favorite Maryland family photographer! This business exists because of all of you – and I can’t say how special that feeling is, even after 6 years. Today, I’m feeling nostalgic and want to highlight six photography sessions in my six years that have left an impression on me! This was super hard for me, because I seriously LOVE all of my clients and their photos. BUT if I had to choose six sessions that have challenged me, made me shift my business, inspired me, and made me emotional, it would be these six.
After our session was over, the kids asked about getting ice cream afterwards. It was at that moment, I knew that I didn’t want to photograph weddings. I’d been dabbling in wedding photography for the first 3 years of my business. I loved my couples and being there, but having those kids ask “Ms. Chrissy, want to get ice cream with us?” hit me in the heart. Being asked to join them with a cone brought me more joy than a hug at the end of a wedding night and I knew I’d found where I was supposed to be.
Jackie and her family are so special to me. She is what we call a “ride or die” client that continues to support your business throughout the years. Jackie always has a clear vision on her photography sessions and this particular session was very special to her and me. She wanted to raise awareness on Endometriosis. It was an emotional day. At the end, tears were shed and she gave me the biggest hug. It made me realize that our relationships with our clients are so important. When I captured these photos, their Dad was returning from overseas. My friend and fellow photographer, Teresa, was counting down the days until her husband’s return from overseas. I let her know I’d be there – no matter what – when he came home. My favorite image of this homecoming reunion was the reaction of everyone at the airport seeing their reunion. This was a special moment for me and reminded me exactly why I do what I do.
My first true mom friend took a chance on me early on and let me photograph her newborn and daughter when I barely knew what I was doing with my camera. Great education helped me grow and as her daughter inched closer to her first birthday, so I wanted to document their nursery journey. There was this little spot by my house in between the townhouses and apartments that had these low lying cherry blossoms and it just made for the perfect backdrop.
I had just finished a course on making the most out of locations and wanted to give this a go and it sure paid off. Getting to document nursing photos is close to my heart as a mama of two and our own nursing journey of 14 months. Tears were definitely shed as I captured this sweet mama and her baby in that little spot in the cherry blossoms that day.
I love this session for 2 reasons. The first is getting to see my cousin as a dad and how much love they have for their boys. Their session also sealed my love of in-home sessions. We stayed in one room, cracked the front door open to let in as much natural light as possible and went to town. The kids were kids – playing and being together- and it was amazing. The chaotic beauty of life at home just drew me in! I’m so thankful for this special session with my cousin and his family.
I literally had goosebumps when I took this photo of Becca (Becca Doring Photography) and her girls. Less than 24 hours before their session, she snagged a last minute opening and was at my door to try on client closet dresses. This was her second parent & me photography session where she borrowed a dress that was just MADE for her. Being in the frame as a mom is so important and I just know her daughters are going to adore these images of their beautiful mama as they get older. Growing up, I only had so many photos of my mom and I and I am so blessed to get parents in the frame now as a photographer. It’s a reminder of the legacy we’re creating together.
I’m so thankful for every moment I get to photograph for my families. Each one holds a piece of my heart and I can’t express how happy I am to know that we’re creating imagery that will become your family’s legacy. Thank you for a beautiful six years as your favorite Maryland family photographer – and here’s to many more!
